Young Carers In School Award 2015

3rd August 16

Following on from our success earlier in the year when Darlinghurst was the first school locally and one of the first schools nationally to achieve the Young Carers award, we are proud to announce that through the hard work and support that Mrs Grant, our Inclusion Leader and Mrs Johnson, our Learning Mentor, provide for our Young Carers, we have now achieved the Silver Award.

Nationally there are in excess of 700,000 Young Carers supporting their families, many of whom remain hidden. Young Carers are pupils under 18 years of age who help to look after a family member who is disabled, physically or mentally ill or has substance misuse problems. Caring can involve physical or emotional care or taking responsibility for someone’s safety or wellbeing. The level or responsibility assumed by a young carer is often inappropriate to their age and at a level beyond simply helping out with jobs at home, which is a normal part of growing up.

If you think that your child(ren) perform this role please speak to Mrs Grant or Mrs Johnson.
